Scholarship Background

The scholarship is a project sponsored by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan. The host school is Soochow University in Taiwan, better known as 東dōng 吳wú 大dà 學xué in Taiwan. The Chinese Language Center is the office in Charge. It is also a joint project with our counterpart in the States.

Application Deadline

September 30, 2025.

Quota: 3 to 5 students, depending on the co-host USA counterpart school project vacancy.

How does it work?

To kick start the scholarship project, the host parties must meet the requirements below:

• A group of at least 15 students is required from the cooperative school in the USA.
• The program length can be 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or 4 weeks at the maximum. 1 week is unacceptable.
• Students pay the full tuition to the host school first, or 東dōng 吳wú 大dà 學xué. Then claim the subsidy with certain requirements. You can pay the tuition fee with a credit card.
• To claim the subsidy, students must have a full attendance record of the language class for 5 class days. Then on the 6th class day, they receive TW$6,000 cash. The pattern goes on until the last week when they will receive the last subsidy on the last day, normally, it’s Friday. In other words, in the last week of the program, they receive the subsidy twice.
• Last but not least, the students haven’t received such a scholarship subsidy in Taiwan within the past 3 years.

Exclusive Opportunity for U.S. Students: A Chinese Language Program in Taipei

Our counterpart university in California, USA, had contracted with us to create this partially funded program by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. They will recruit a group of 15 to kick-start the project. However, the number of recruited students might be below 15. A vacancy is therefore created. As a host school, we would like to extend this opportunity to higher education students in the United States who are interested in learning the language and culture in Taipei, Taiwan. In doing so, we have a high chance to kick-start the project.
